The BMW i3 was the first zero-emissions car to be mass-produced by BMW and it is the first car that started their “BMW i” sub-brand. Designed by Richard Kim, the i3 is a lightweight mix of carbon fibre reinforced plastic and aluminium holding the cabin, chassis, battery and drivetrain together. Using clever rear-hinged rear doors, the car has a clamshell-style opening to improve access to the rear seats without losing the sporty hatchback aesthetic. This, and its steller green credentials, has earned the i3 2 World Car Of The Year Awards. 1 for World Green Car Of The Year and 1 for World Car Design Of The Year.
The all-electric hatchback is powered by a 130kW electric motor fitted at the back of the vehicle driving the rear wheels. This produces around 170bhp and can propel the car from 0-62mph in around 7.3 seconds and it can return 114 miles to a single charge.
Designed from top to bottom with sustainability in mind, the BMW i3 even uses around 27 recycled plastic bottles to make the interior from the seats to the doors and petroleum-based plastics have been replaced by natural materials like Kenaf, which is harvested from malva plants and is 30% lighter.
This particular i3 is an immaculate 1-owner example with an extensive list of optional extras including Harman Kardon HiFi, Adaptive Cruice Control, full brown leather Suite Interior with Comfort Access and Sun Protection Glass. This car is a 2017 model with just 25,000 miles and a full service history and is ready to drive away today.
