1968 Volkswagen Cross Over Double Crew Cab (DOKA) 1585cc Manual

  • stock # 239

We are proud and delighted to offer this time-warp Bay window low light model which was built in Germany on 2nd July 1968. (Volkswagen Transporter Type 26 double crew cab) LHD. Production was very limited in this style and for 1 year only, incorporating many identifiable and now discontinued Split screen components throughout the vehicle giving a uniqueness that is not seen in any other model ever built in the Wolfsburg factory.

‘Dave’ was affectionately named before he got his historic UK registration and the DVLA inspector and assessor made a personal visit meticulously detailing all his vital statistics for the V5C. He too agreed that this is a ‘pure time capsule investment’ with a broad smile on his face as he left.

The vehicle sports an original body complete with a few battle scars and patina. It has been painted around 10 years ago but never had a colour change (LS12 Velvet green and roof in L610 Cloud white) It comes complete with the original working Volkswagen (Emden) radio with VW stamped into the knobs, working locks (53 years old) and a 1585cc 48 BHP engine 85.5 bore/69 stroke and original Pierburg 2E carburettor.

This crew cab has rocking horse value because of option 207 (original tilt and bow frame albeit that just one slat is now missing which I think can be excused). Option 504 is the rarest of all: fresh air duct to cargo compartment and tougher torsion bars for the rear axle. The interior is original including the mats and seats and the driver’s seat has the manual turn knob for reclining in full working order.

This vehicle now sports a full electrical overhaul from auto spark VW guru Jon Woodhouse, 4 new commercial tyres and stainless hub caps and brake service. The new owner will receive a new MOT although Dave is in fact tax and MOT exempt.

Being presented as original means a great deal to the transparency of any inspection and the ultimate value is in the choice of whether the new owner falls in love with the patina and stories of all those travels or that they are wiped clean with a new paint job and light restoration.

Either way, this is a valuable asset and it is likely you won’t find another example in the UK right now with this type of condition nor detailed history or factory additions. This IS the only one.

Due to this vehicle’s historic status, it is ULEZ exempt.

UK or overseas delivery is available with cost upon request.
